YWCA Youth Give Back To Community Through Food Drive
DonatePrograms & Services
A BIG thanks to the grade 7 students of Sexsmith School enrolled in the YWCA‘s after school programs ‘Welcome To My Life‘ and ‘Boys For Real!’ Leaders Amanda and Annina challenged the group to coordinate a community service project that allowed them to give back to the community. The group chose to organize a food drive for The Salvation Army Vancouver Community & Family Services ‘Emergency Food Assistance Program:’ Food hampers are available to low-income families with children under 19, living in Vancouver and Burnaby. Eligible families are able to receive this service during an emergency, or once every 90 days (maximum 3 times per year). Hampers usually consist of items, such as: soup, beans, peanut butter, tuna, vegetables, fruit, macaroni, rice, instant noodles, bread, cheese and margarine (quantities depend on family size). Call 604-872-7676 to schedule an appointment. Please note that this service is not a food bank. Instead, its aim is to provide families with enough food until they receive their next income or visit the food bank (for more information please phone 604-876-3601 or visit www.foodbank.bc.ca).
