Volunteer Opportunities - Nourishing Hope Marketplace

Our Nourishing Hope Marketplace(NHM) 's aim is simple: To nourish hope in the lives of those in our community by meeting practical needs. Everyone deserves to have food that is healthy, appropriate to their needs and received through a dignifying experience. Your support as our regular NHM volunteers/on-call NHM volunteers is much appreciated.
Date: Every Wednesday and Friday (Start date to be confirmed)
Time: from 7:30AM till the end of the market (around 12:30/1PM) [The start time could be 8:30AM if you prefer)
Location: 3213 Fraser Street, Vancouver BC V5V 4B8
No. of volunteers needed : 3
Requirements and qualifications:
- Consent to TSA submitting a Criminal Records Check (There is NO fee for this check)
- Be able to communicate in English
- Above the age of 19 (Volunteers under the age of 19 must be accompanied by their legal guardians during volunteering)
- A genuine interest in helping the families in need
- Good listening and communication skills. Being patient, respectful and understanding.
- Maintain confidentiality about all personal information
- Carry out the position in a conscientious, courteous and safe manner
- Have cultural awareness and sensitivity
- Be able to lift and carry items up to 50lbs
- Sort and pack food
- Perform as a Personal shopper to assist families in need to select food and grocery items according to their needs and preferences
- Assist in setting up and cleaning up
- Be able to lift and carry items up to 50lbs
- Perform other NHM related duties as assigned by the NHM food manager, Pamela Burt.
[This is an on-call position for volunteers who cannot commit all the dates required for the NHM program. If you apply for this role and accepted, our Volunteer Coordinator will notify you to see if you are available to volunteer with us at the NHM on a specific date.]

In need of an on-call volunteer driver 🚘️
We are in the process of creating a group of on-call Volunteer Drivers /Food Donations Associates as we foresee the necessity to pick up and deliver food and grocery items from various locations.We are seeking Drivers/Driving Assistantswho can be contacted on short notice during weekday mornings and are comfortable with being reached at any time of the day. Most of the volunteer shifts are during weekday mornings.
Date: Weekdays (from Monday to Friday)

Camps: VBS/Coding Camps for children aged between 7 and 12
Camp Dates and Time:
VBS Camp: July 8-12, 2024 (from 8:30AM to 4PM);
Coding Camp: July 15-19 and July 22-26, 2024 (from 8:30AM to 4PM)
Location: The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver (Address: 3213 Fraser Street)
Length of Commitment: Min. Commitment: 1 week (full days 8:30 am-4:00 pm) for the camp and 1 week (3 hours a day) for camp preparation before the start date of the camp.
Main Responsibilities:
- General supervision, head counts, and safety checks of camp participants
- Assist Youth & Families Coordinator with set-up, facilitation, and clean-up for games, activities, and lessons.
- Participate in all camp-specific activities including recreation games and sports. Provide a safe and welcoming camp environment to camp participants.
- Maintain a high level of respect and professionalism when interacting with camp participants, parents,instructors, volunteers, and camp administration
- Work in collaborative manner with other volunteers to lead games and divide camp responsibilities
- Effectively communicate absences and tardiness with camp administration and instructors
- Adhere to all policies and procedures set out by camp administration.
- Additional duties as directed by camp administration.
Requirements:
- Strong Interpersonal and Communication Skills
- Able to communicate in English
- At least 15 years old by the beginning of the summer
- A Criminal Record Check (free of charge) will be required
- Attend an interview
Qualifications:
A desire to work in a positive environment with children. Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
Flexibility and willingness to try new activities
Training and Supervision:
Volunteers will receive training specific to this role from our Youth & Families Coordinator, Neisy Castillo.

Main Responsibilities:
As a Summer Camp Volunteer Driver, your responsibility will be driving safely to take kids to camp during the Summer. The tentative details are as follows:
Holiday Camp:
- July 29- Transportation from Robson Park to Horseshoe Bay terminal- Pick up at the
Robson at 12:30 pm
- Aug. 2- Transportation from Horseshoe Bay terminal to Robson Park- Pick up at the
terminal at 11:45 am
Teen Camp:
- Aug. 6-Transportation from Robson Park to Horseshoe Bay terminal- Pick up at Robson
Park 12:30 pm
- Aug. 9-Transportation from Horseshoe Bay terminal to Robson Park- Pick up at the
terminal at 11:45 am
Remarks: Volunteer Driver(s) are also required to pick up the bus. More details will be
provided once we have confirmation.
Requirements:
- Able to communicate in English
- Have a Class 2 License
- Provide The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver and related parties (i.e the
- company/the school) with a copy of Driver’s Abstract and a copy of valid driver’s
- license.
- A Short Interview and a Criminal Record Check (free of charge) will be required

Volunteer Shifts: From 9AM to 12:30PM (3.5 hours) on Thursday
Location: 3213 Fraser Street, Vancouver BC V5V 4B8

Major Duties:
- Assist with cooking and preparing a freshly made meal in the morning Support and communicate any problems to the food coordinator
- Build a community with neighbours through conversation and discipleship Serve food to neighbours according to their preference
- Clean the kitchen at the end of the shift may be needed
- Strong Interpersonal and Communication Skills Able to communicate in English
- Basic Cooking and Cleaning Skills
- Be flexible and cooperative
- (Optional) Attend the food safety training course

- Sanitize and wipe all tables at the venue during the meal time Sanitize and wipe all chairs at the venue at the end of the program
- Assist in washing dishes (a dishwasher is available)
- Assist in cleaning the multi-purpose room after the meal time
- Educate neighbours to categorise the garbage and leftovers into different bins Work and communicate closely with the food coordinator
- Build a community with neighbours through conversation and discipleship
- Able to communicate in English

- Be flexible and cooperative

- Take discarded food to the compost bin
- Throw garbage into bins
- Sweep and mop any large spills
- Assist in cleaning the multi-purpose room after the meal time

- Warmly greet and welcome all arriving neighbours in different languages as needed
- Direct them to the Coat Check Counter/their dining tables/the food station as needed
- Follow the safety and emergency rules and regulations of the Salvation Army Approach and develop good relationships with neighbours in a safe and friendly manner
- Provide hand sanitizer and masks to the neighbours as needed
- Help sanitize and wipe all tables at the venue during and after the meal time
